“The 6th count, for sex trafficking, carries a maximum sentence of 40 years.”
Just before 5:00 PM, the jury in the Ghislaine Maxwell trial had a verdict.
Ghislaine Maxwell was found guilty on five out of the six counts she was being tried for. The 6th count, for sex trafficking, carries a maximum sentence of 40 years.
Maxwell reacted by shakily pouring herself a glass of water. Nobody on either the defense or the prosecution’s side looked confident before the verdict was read.
Maxwell was found not guilty on the 2nd count, which was related to enticement of Jane for the purpose of committing sexual crimes.
The jury was unanimous on their decision. At 5:07 PM, the jury was dismissed.
The prosecutors left the courtroom by the staircase. They didn’t show much emotion, or respond to a request for a comment.
The Maxwells: Kevin, Christine, Kevin, and their family attorney Leah Saffian, rode the elevator up to the defense chamber after the verdict. Saffian looked upset, and none of the family responded to a request for a comment.
A little later in the evening, they released a statement:
"We believe firmly in our sister's innocence - we are very disappointed with this verdict.
We have already started the appeal tonight and we believe that she will be vindicated."
Bobbi Sternheim, one of Maxwell’s defense lawyers, told a crowd of press that they were planning to appeal, and that they were disappointed with the verdict.
Maxwell faces around 70 years in prison. The sentencing will be scheduled soon.
Looks like they are gone continue to drag this out.
